What is the difference between an agent and an independent educational consultant?
Agents are paid commissions by universities for each placement that they make, in addition to any fees they may charge the families of their students. Because IECs are paid only by their students’ families, they represent only the interests of their students and families. Hyll is proud to be an independent education consulting firm.
Why should I choose an IEC over an agency?
Agencies have an inherent conflict of interest, since their business model depends on making placements at universities that pay commission. They thus have little incentive to recommend universities that do not, even when they may be a good fit for a student.
How much do you charge for your services?
Each and every client has different needs. Our prices vary according to when our students begin working with us, the complexity of the application processes where they intend to apply, and other factors. Our prices thus vary according to all of the variables involved, and after a free consultation in which we learn more about your needs, we will provide you with a quote relevant to your specific, individual case. Contact us to request an appointment here.
Do you guarantee admission?
At Hyll, we guarantee that we will work with you to ensure that your application represents the very best of you, ensuring that you are as competitive a candidate as you possibly can be. However, we never guarantee admission to any specific program or university. Indeed, we are specifically prohibited from doing so by the codes of ethics of the professional organizations to which we belong. Such guarantees would be a disservice to clients and a betrayal of their trust, since no one (outside of the admissions offices themselves) has any control over admissions outcomes. Even so, we are proud of our high success rate at some of the most selective universities in the world.
Why should I choose Hyll?
We believe that there are three reasons that set us apart. First, our consultants have studied and worked at some of
the world’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning: including Harvard University, Williams College, and Vassar College. Second, each of our consultants has over a decade of experience mentoring students, and given the bond that must develop in any consultant-student relationship, this is critical. Finally, our consultants’ PhDs guarantee that we are excellent writers and editors—just see some of our blog posts if you don’t believe us!
How much do you charge for consultations?
Nothing! We believe it is important for our clients to have the opportunity to get to know us before making a decision, and that it shouldn’t cost them anything to do so. During the consultation, we will ask you about your situation, your goals, and your dreams. We will also answer any and all questions you have, and be completely honest with you about whether our services are a good fit for you.
